 Lionel Andres Messi, born on 24th June 1987 is an Argentine professional footballer. Messi captains the Argentina national team and plays as a forward in Paris Saint Germain, a Ligue 1 club. 


Messi is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time and he won a record of 7 Ballon D'or awards. He has featured in only Barcelona throughout his career until last year when he left Barcelona to join PSG. 


Current form:- Lionel Messi has been in his old good form this season too as he made 12 appearances in Ligue 1 games scoring 7 times and assisting 10 times. In the Champions League, he made 5 appearances and scored four times. He also assisted four times.


World Cup record:- Lionel Messi started off his world cup journey in 2006. Messi was first called into the team for a friendly match against Hungary in 2005. Messi started his first game in the qualifying match against Peru in which he won a crucial penalty to secure their victory. 


Ahead of the world cup in Brazil in 2014, talks about Messi’s form were stretched out by his performance that season with Barcelona. But he came back stronger by winning man of the match in the qualifying matches. He led Argentina to a 2-1 victory over Bosnia. 


They defeated the Netherlands in the semis by shootout to play the final against Germany which they lost 1-0. The 2018 FIFA World Cup was not that happening for Argentina as they lost in the round of 16 against France by 4-3. 


Overall stats:- Messi is considered to be one of the greatest forwards ever in the world of football. He has incredible records with Barcelona. He played for Barcelona from 2004-21 and has made an appearance of 778 with 672 goals. He currently features in PSG and has 23 goals in his 53 appearances. 


For Argentina, he has 164 appearances and 90 goals which makes him the second-highest individual goal scorer for the country after Cristiano Ronaldo.
